One of my favorites is a guy called Ashleigh Brilliant. I don't even know if his work could be described as poems, but they feel the same to me. He doodles a little picture and writes 17 or less words to go with the picture. They are every bit as good as any poem I've ever read.

I saw an ancient one word poem in a museum in Japan. Perhaps because each “letter” can contain or be part of many words, it works well in Japanese. We have words with multiple meanings, too, but the connotations aren’t usually as deep. ( for me, connotations are like word baggage, which I don’t mean in a negative way. Baggage can allow us to carry our necessaries with us🤣

IMO, most of the terms in https://www.thedictionaryofobscuresorrows.com/ carry some poetic connotations both in their sounds and descriptions.

On the BonIver livestream before releasing the song “if only I(we) could wait” they put the name of the song on a little led sign that read “if onw ley” and I have to wonder if that was a typo or very much on purpose. Many did not notice the distortion right away or at all. And maybe that was the point. Bc your mind almost automatically corrects it. Esp since the sign was scrolling through a larger message and it was only on screen for maybe 3 sec or so.

Is this the shortest poem? Dare I say Aram Saroyan made a smaller poem, titled “M”

Side note: I love poets who defy the “rules” by extreme measures. Here’s a link explaining Saroyan’s “instant poems”: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/articles/1610769/aram-saroyan-selections
